I completed week 4 in time, but not to the best of my ability so I was going to repeat week 4 on my vacation. So technically I'm on week 6, right?
On vacation I pretty much proved my theory about the treadmill. It seemed to me that it would be an easier route because it's doing some of the work but I wanted to test it to be sure. On my first morning in the hotel I decided to check out the workout room. I got on the treadmill first thing and began without much effort. I got to the end of my first 5 minute jog and felt great. No sweat, no heart pounding. So I decided to keep moving into the next 5 minutes right away and so forth until I had actually jogged 20 minutes straight. It was amazing that I had hardly broken a sweat and I could have gone on if I had really been having that much fun. I text Mike when I was done to see if he'd be amazed. He said maybe I have super powers and Texas is kryptonite. Funny guy.
I personally think that the treadmill is just easier so I was back on the road this morning.
Mike and the kids got me an early Mother's Day gift. See pic below. It's a Polar wrist unit with a chest strap and foot pod. It's amazing and I think I need to take a course in how to use it. Polar 101 or Polar for Dummies. I took it out for a spin this morning and it measured and recorded the distance I went, the time, my heart rate the whole time, the calories burned and even the max and averages of my heart rate at different times of the session. Then I transferred it all to the website and it gave me a program to train from (or I can continue my current training program.) It even shows my progress in graphs and keeps a countdown of my next (first) 5k! I love it, but I still need to fiddle with it and actually read the user's manual. Gotta love Mother's Day!

So after my week on vacation, it was real tough to get back on track. I was slow to start this morning and by the end of my second round I was really hurting. But I persevered and completed another session of week 4. I'll try my hardest to move on and begin week 5 next week. There is actually a real 5k in July that I've tagged for my goal. All in all, I'm happy I've initiated the training and hope that I can be successful.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!You are rockin', I am not quite there-- My goal is next February a 5k!!! and I got a pedometer for mothers day-ha ha how funny!!! LOVE it!! I LOVE your family picture in the bluebonnets...we miss the wildflowers there (how did we never see you?, how did you end up there?)!!! Your family is beautiful!!!
Chelle, That is one cool heart rate monitor. Which model?
Also, just a little bit of encouragement. YOU CAN DO IT! Starting something can be so intimidating. Matter of fact, continuing something can be equally intimidating. Every year I battle feelings of "can I really do this".
For example, last night we went to the pool. Brett told me that he would not start swimming until I had swam a mile. When we got to the pool there were TONS of people, and only ONE public lap lane because of the HS Swim Team. So, I jumped in and swam with a minimum of 5 people in my lane at any given moment. During lap 6 I thought to myself - I can't do 10 more of these. Then I remembered that a lot can be done with the power of the mind. I finished the extra 10. It is not an easy thing for me, but I can be and I was a finisher.
Keep your chin up on the hard days. Remember that most of America doesn't even attempt what you are setting out to do.
Also remember that once you hit that 3 mile mark you CAN keep going and it won't feel so bad. Your body will be used to the motion and another mile or two will come naturally.
Good luck and know that we are forever thinking of you.

PS - Sorry for the book.
