\'hunker\ vb 1: settle in for a sustained period - used with downI've heard this term before but never as much as I have in the last 12 hours.
OK, it's just a waiting game now. I thought I'd keep you all informed about what's been going on so far. Recap:
With every update on the news, Ike keeps moving East. So very unpredicatable. All of Brazoria County has been under manditory evac. except for a few cities, including Pearland. They encourage us to stay home and "Hunker Down."
My mother and sister, Jennifer have evacuated with the kids early this morning. It gives me such a relief to know that they are in Dallas safe and sound. My other sister, Melissa, will have to stay and work and will evacuate with her company when the time comes. Her girls have gone to Midland with their dad. It's tough for me to not be with them during stressful times like this. I'm glad they have each other. Aaron is safe and sound in Utah, but just as frustrated that he cannot be with us.
Today we strapped down the catamaran and the storage shed, moved the grill, rugs, etc into the garage, and ran to the store for the necessities (poptarts, chips, cookies.) Really, I'm pretty darn prepared in the food and water department. Going to the grocery store was quite boring. I love the prophets! We came across a man reaching over our cart to grab a large pack of beer as he stated, "My necessities."

We dropped by Home Depot to pick up a few items and found this. They were only letting certain amounts of people into the store at the same time.

Then we went to a momandpop hardware store and found this.

This is me attempting to "drill" the ground anchors. It was a joke. I finally came to reality and called Mike over to finish the job. My muscle man put 6 of these into the ground.

This evening we headed out for a "last supper" before the hurricane and just about the only thing open was Popeyes chicken. There goes my diet. I believe that Popeyes is about the only fast food I know of with nothing healthy to eat. No salad, no wrap... just fried, fried and fried. Can't say it wasn't delicious! I wish we had taken pictures of the journey. So many stores closed and boarded. I guess it would have looked like a ghost town if there hadn't been so much traffic on the road still. Where was everybody going?!
On a lighter note, the other day I decided it was about time I finished our downstairs bathroom. We were having our RS activity at our house and I wanted it done. Mike says we should have these activities at our house more often 'cause I get some major work done in anticipating company. I ordered some beautiful wall vinyl from Stampin Up! and it looks great. (if I do say so myself) Here's a couple of pics.

Our activity was awesome BTW. We had a "Back to School" party from the teacher's perspective. We had a professional teacher come and talk to us about what teacher's expect out of parents and students and how we can help our kiddos be successful in class and at home with homework. We also had a book exchange. Everyone was encouraged to bring any books they were finished reading or didn't want anymore to share/trade with others. It was very successful and I think every one had a great time. We had great company and very yummy food. I love it when a plan comes together!
So the storm is supposed to hit tomorrow afternoon. There goes our Friday night pre-storm party of grilling and watching "Twister" on the big screen. There is a good chance that we will be losing our electricity after tomorrow so this could be my last update until after the storm. Until then...

i don't think that i've ever seen anything like that. i'm sure that you do really appreciate words of wisdom from the prophet so that you don't have to scramble like everyone else to get the "true" necessities! good for you!
we're still thinking about you guys...and waiting for an update!
p.s the stencils look great on your bathroom! oh to have my won bathroom where i could actually paint! --i'm not sure if brook would be excited about that---i seriously would have a difficult time picking one thing that i wanted to do--there are just so many things that a girl can do to a room!
