Holy Watermelons!

My summer garden was just about shot and on it's last leg when I walked past a watermelon plant at Lowe's some time ago. It was discounted and I thought, what the heck, what could it hurt. I came home, pulled out all my dead tomato plants and planted the measly thing.

Where has the time gone! I went out and for the first time in weeks I took a good look at that watermelon plant (which obviously someone else had been watering) and realized that it had turned into a monster!
This picture doesn't really do it justice. This darn plant has taken over my garden and I have somewhere around 8 or 9 watermelons growing! Some are almost the size of a basketball. I am too excited! Anybody got any good advice on keeping these monsters alive until juicy and ripe?

I know nothing about watermelons--but how exciting to have something grow so well in your garden!!

All I know is the more you water then right before picking, the sweeter they will be.

Just leave them on the vine until you are ready for them (but they don't freeze well!) You sure seem to have the green thumb. I'm jealous.
