Somerville 2010

We took advantage of another summer scouting campout as a family. It was great fun! We loaded up our regular summer paraphernalia (sailboat, kayak, swimsuits) and headed out to Lake Somerville near Brenham, Texas. The weather couldn't have been more perfect!
We got there just before dark and set up camp. The breeze was cool and the mosquitoes light. The moon was almost full and the starts were bright. (I'm a poet and didn't even know it, I can rhyme in no time.) Maddie and I had a genius idea to sleep out on the sailboat trampoline under the stars. I never really got any good sound sleep, but it was quite the adventure. I told Maddie that the moonlight becomes her and we cozied up to the sounds of Willie Nelson. At about 3am, I snapped a lousy picture of the moon. This picture doesn't do it justice! It was so bright, yet the stars were so vivid. As the crickets and toads sang their songs and the trees swayed in the breeze, it really did feel a bit of what I would imagine Heaven to be like.

Our family shot.
Mike setting up the boat. This was the day I would learn to sail and as I would mindfully steer with the tiller, Mike would get on the other side and pitch the boat onto it's side. It was a lovely adventure!
Mike attempting the wind surfer. Zack and I attempted it also. Emphasis on the attempt!
Troop 460 mingled with a few family members. We will definitely visit again as a family.
