Our first born, our new born and inbetween.

This will be a two part blog entry. Two amazing things have happened to us in the last few months and we are overjoyed with thankfulness and excitement. I feel ashamed that I've not kept up with our blog. Shame, when it reaches a certain point, can get things moving along again. So I'm here to report with all the commitment I can muster to make these posts as frequent and consistant as possible. I admit, at times I've blogged to boast. But I mostly blog as a diary for our family. Years ago we printed our first blog book and it sits in our front room. I love it and I love that our kids can read it and remember how blessed we've been.

Now on to the excitement! As most know by now, after almost 8 years of trying, we are expecting our first little Feidler together. I think I am beyond the point of disbelief and leaning more towards the this-is-too-real-and-now-I'm-freaked-out phase. We have been seeing a specialist in Houston and the journey has been long and rough, physically and emotionally. But on a plus side, we are in our 11th week and have had the blessing of an ultrasound every week since day one. I did not realize what a fun treat it was until my new OBGYN said we'll see her again in about two weeks and even then she will not be performing an ultrasound. Say what? At least at this point we have the reasurrance that just yesterday we saw that wiggle worm with it's heart just a beating like a sweet drum. My guess is we will find out the gender of the baby with our next ultrasound which won't be until about 16-18 weeks. Seems like in forever and a day.

Week 6 and 7 I could have done without. It was rough battling headaches and nausea at once. I was very mindful of those moms who have one or more little toddlers running around, still needing to be tended to. All the while I had my sweet family trying to help make ME as comfortable as possible. Week 8 until now have been very manageable. I joke that as long as I keep eating, I feel great. It is really no joke. I hate that concept, but as long as I eat every couple of hours, and sometimes inbetween, I am able to keep moving without a hitch. I think now it is more of a low blood sugar issue than morning sickness. I have been given the go ahead to start light exercise so as soon as I get my energy back (second trimester, right??) then I am good to go.

I am proud to report that as of yesterday afternoon, I have been officially released from the fertility specialist. That means no more traveling to north Houston, no more $50 copays weekly, no more expensive SHOTS and no more 3 times a day pills. I am loving life! I can now be a plain o regular pregnant gal.

Excitement #2.... Graham has started the newest chapter of his life at BYU Idaho and is loving every millisecond of it. Grandpa Bill and Grandma Nancy drove him through a few states to get to Idaho, then Kim and Mike flew out seperately to spend those last couple of days with him before classes started. They took their first college trip to the grocery store, the book store, the parents' meeting. They got his dorm all fixed up, clothes put away, Texas flag up on the wall and met a few dorm mates. Ah, the life. I so remember my own experiences at Ricks College, Idaho. That freedom, that excitement, and the overall feeling of finally being "grown up." Now days we can count on Facebook and real time phone calls to keep us in touch with each other. We spoke to Graham on Sunday and he was lit up like a ball of fire. Monday we got his report that the teachers are great and he is loving the school. When you know how much fun they are having, it's hard to miss them too, too much.

It wouldn't be much of a catch up blog entry if I didn't mention the others. Maddie and Zack started the new school year off  with each going to a brand new school district. They made the transition better than expected. It will be a tough year with homework proving to haunt us every night. Maddie is attending 7th grade at Nolan Ryan Junior High. She loves her choir class and has been selected as a section leader. Her first performance is this week! She has also had the opportunity to work with some special needs peers in her PE class. I love that she gets to have this experience. She will be very good at it with the tender heart she possesses.

Zack has started his freshman year at Manvel High School, taking mostly AP classes. He is continuing to surprise himself with teachers' praises in writing. He has always been good in art and this year was able to get into advanced art with a letter of recommendation from last year's art teacher. He also has the privelege of starting seminary this year. When he is not doing homework, which is almost never, he is Mind Crafting on the computer. Ah, our boys and their electronics!

Since this entry is starting to sound like a yearly Christmas card, it's best to come to an end. It is obvious that the Lord is mindful of us and our needs. We look forward to our future but we are also  enjoying our day to day.
