Typical. We forgot to get out the camera until we were headed off the lot. The sale opened at 8am and by the time we got there at 7:30am there were hundreds of people in line. Little did we know a friend from church and my own mother were up at the front of the line. Stinkers! But we ended up getting what we wanted except for the avacado trees. Maybe next year. It was way fun to be a part of it all.
We didn't space the trees as well as we would have liked, but our back yard is not the biggest and we have lousy electical/phone wires dug underground right smack in the most inconvenient places. Then there is our storage shed and Mike's boat. It's the best we could do with what we had but I think it will be fine. Especially if we keep it good and pruned.
I am totally stoked about our grapefruit tree. Growing up I was not too big on the fruit. My mom has had great success with hers and a few weeks ago sent some home for me to share with the kids. Well, I guess my tastebuds have changed because now I can't get enough! And Zack and Maddie love them also.
Our lemon tree already has lemons on it! We very well could have fresh lemonade this summer!! Woo hoo!
I can't even explain how good it feels to have this initiated again. Such a productive day! It's good to know that just weeks away we will have fresh veggies for dinner and possibly in a year from now we will enjoy our very own backyard fruits. I'm trying so hard to be more self reliant. This is my year to change things in that area. I'm determined to learn more!! It's encouraged in church and by our leaders, but I'm especially grateful to my mother for all of her wonderful ideas that she shares and for her example throughout my life. I remember watching/helping her in her garden and even now I love it when she calls me with grocery sales or yummy recipes. What a woman!!
So the kids are home from their mom's for the rest of the weekend and we are so ready to just get some R and R tonight. Oh happy day.

Let's give credit where credit is really due ~ You must remember that opinions are like belly buttons. Every body has one. But in your wisdom, you attentively listen and follow thru with the determination and energy it takes to learn and grow. Good for you!!
Can I just say I'm jealous...It is still cold here and it would be so fun to be outside working with the soil. Keep up the good work
it is so crazy to think that i FEB you are already planting----we're still in the thinking and planning stages...not planting here....there is always the chance of another snow storm or freeze (even though it is going to be in the '60's all this week!)
looks like sooooo mcuh fun!
You sound like a pro already!!! It looks sooo yummy!! I think we have the same hearts!! next year I will fly out to go to that sale too! Keep us posted on your tips--however...I think things grow better in your humidity and rain!
