Mailbox Saga

I remember when I was a kid, being pretty darn excited to get letters and cards in the mail. It was mostly on the birthday occasion and it was bliss. I remember that feeling carrying on into my teenage years. I moved in with some friends in San Antonio for the second half of my senior year. I missed my friends and family back home and literally depended on that mailbox to spit me out some love letters on a daily basis. (To this day, I go back on occasion and read those cherished letters.) Not only did this mailbox dependency continue but it escalated into my college years. Oh happy day when those letters arrived!!

I imagine this explains my inner eagerness to get the mail every day. Most days, as soon as I see that little white box truck turn around in front of my house, I grab my mail key and head out the door. Many days I'm too busy at that very moment, but get there as quick as I can.

Unfortunately, these days I've not much to look forward to. I almost always get a bill or two (or three), the typical bank/credit card offer, and advertisements for somebody trying to sell me something. Mike on the otherhand, is always looking for a magazine. He goes online and signs up for free magazines and I swear our mail person is cursing him daily!!

Now it's not so much the pieces of mail that make the occasion so special, but the short walk to the mailbox. As I walk towards the door with my key in hand, my Mike meets me at the door and we go together. Hand in hand, we enjoy the one on one for the few minutes that it is. There may not be any "good" mail, but it sure is a treat to get there.
