My understanding is that times have changed. With my gentle and loving encouragement, I set the husband and kids on dish duty after a good home cooked meal. (7 days a week, most of the time.) Well, because I deserve it. And because I'm tired. And because it's a good lesson in responsibility and service. And because it is everyone's obligation to put forth efforts to make our house a home. Do I need any more reasons?!
I remember my dad helping in the kitchen. I probably remember it more than it really occurred. My mother tells the story of when my dad was trying to help in the kitchen and just wasn't doing it right. She must have gotten on to him and it hurt his feelings. He made a big stink like if she wanted help in the kitchen, she can't complain about it. I learned the lesson.
I'm grateful for any kind of help, anywhere, anytime. Graham in all of his growing wisdom, has been helping me after dinner. Actually, they all help but the others do it with some complaining. (OK, Maybe not Zack. Not a complainer.) Graham has learned. Keep your mouth shut and it will all be over soon enough.
Today, Saturday, we slept in. Delicious. I got up to make homemade cinnamon and sugar donuts. One of the absolute favorite around these parts. After partaking, Graham having dish duty this week, took it upon himself to load the dishwasher with soap and get it started. Oh, I noticed alright. Makes me happy. He's learning! He's growing and maturing! He's helping without complaining! Life is good.
All of the sudden.....
Mike notices a bit of a problem. Only in the movies have I ever witnessed such a thing....
Me "Graham, whaja do???"
Graham "I put soap in it and started it!"
Me "What KIND of SOAP???"
Graham "The new kind in the blue bottle!"
Me "THE DAWN???"
Me, Mike and Graham "AHHHHHHH"
So we had a good laugh. Enough bubbles to last us a lifetime. Why is it that when there are tons of fun bubbles involved, now EVERYBODY is willing to help?!
Thanks to Wikihow online, a lot of vinegar and salt, we got it cleaned up and back to normal. Really, how can I complain. Today is his birthday party day. No one is hurt. Plus, he very well could try to use this as an excuse to banish himself from the kitchen for all eternity! Not a chance...
