111111 @ 1:11

When I met Mike he drove Fire Ant. It was my first encounter with a Mini Cooper. It was a whole new world to me. A world of things like giving your car a name, cleaning and waxing frequently, purchasing windshield insurance, vinyl racing stripes and car clubs, just to name a few. Fire Ant was for sale on our first date and Mike was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Nemo. He and the kids even celebrated Nemo's "birth" with cake and balloons. I thought it was adorable. Little did I know. Also new to me was the idea of getting rid of a car before problems occurred. It's crazy how we grow up with our families doing different things. I always thought you drove a car until it dies. What a rush it is to have your car paid off years before it dies!

When I met Mike I was in a black Toyota Tacoma (used) and it was paid off. It was the first car I purchased by myself. It was the coolest truck ever, but it just wasn't the right size for my new family. So we bought a brand spankin' new Honda Pilot. I loved it and we named it Black Beauty. A year later Mike spotted a 4 door Jeep on the freeway and I received a I-gotta-have-it phone call. Next thing I knew, I was driving a beautiful rusty red Jeep. We made a few memories with the top and doors off, but about a year later, I'd had enough of the whining kids in the back (they were spoiled to having space between them, you see) and the copious amounts of water leaking in on rainy days. Frustrated, I would complain to Mike that there was something wrong with the Jeep as it leaks in bad weather. His reply? "Yeah, so? It's a Jeep." HA!
Needless to say, I am now happily back into a Honda Pilot. The boys will try to tell you that it's pink, but don't let them fool you. It is a burgandy color, has nice leather seats, packs in 8 whole people, AND it's PAID off!! Every once in a while I may get a tiny little itch for a shiny new car, but did I mention that it's paid off??!! I know Wal-mart sells just about everything you could possibly need, but no, we did not purchase this car at Wal-mart or Sam's.
I've managed to talk Mike into hanging on to Nemo. It's still bright and shiny, clean, topless, driving well, getting lots of attention. (I'm talking about Nemo, not Mike.) I'm very proud of him for keeping this car. I know he would love a brand new one, but this one is also paid off and it makes for a perfect work/travel car for him. Today was a special day for Nemo and I hope we share many more special days to come!

They have a word for beyond obsessive, but I dislike it intensely so I won't say it, but you guys are WAY more than obsessive about transportation. Just kidding, I think it's fine. I must be either too 1) old, 2) tired, 3) lacking in creativity or 4) obsessive about other stuff. Who watches the mileage that close??????? (and coordinates it with the time). Pretty cute post, Chelle.

Mom-He actually did notice the mileage just before it hit 111111, then he pulled over and waited at a gas station for 4 minutes until 1:11. I know EXACTLY what word you are thinking! And just today, I got the article you sent me in the mail about people naming their cars. The timing was impeccable!
