Blogging or Bragging, Part 2

Maddie brought home an invitation to a singing competition that was to be held at the new Pearland Town Center. The competition was open to the public and the contestants would sing God Bless America and be judged for voice, appearance, stage presentation, etc. The winners would be invited to sing during opening and intermission of the Pearland July 4th celebration held every year. Since Maddie wants to be a professional performer one day, this was right up her alley.

We printed out sheet music and she listened to the song online. Then she got to work practicing. We got a bit distracted and time went on. Mike and I decided not to bring it up thinking that there would be so much talent there, we didn't want her to be disappointed or embarrassed. (She still has much to learn in this talent.)

Friday night it came up again. We discouraged her. Shame on us. She was disappointed but agreed that she would just watch the competition and learn for next year.

Saturday was such a busy day! By the time the auditions were to begin we had to split up. Mike took Maddie and Graham. After watching a few contestants, Mike decided that there really wasn't much talent and that Maddie ought to have a chance. He strongly encouraged her to go onstage last minute. She nervously agreed and found herself standing on the stage in front of 50+ people, singing her little heart out.

We are so proud of her enthusiasm and efforts! She displays great confidence in herself most of the time and sets a great example for all of us. She did not make the final selection, but she will try again next year. And this is another definate entry on her resume!

You go girl! It takes a lot of courage and tenacity to even get up and try. " That which does not kill us makes us strong" or something like that. :-) You can't expect to win if you don't play the game. Good job, Maddie!
