Today was Graham's first day of what I remember calling "freedom."
Last night we took a jaunt to Houston to pick up the car that his Nana purchased for him. We weren't quite ready to set him free in the Houston traffic so Mike went shot gun with him on the way home. I must say that Graham kept his composure quite well. He was cool as a cucumber all evening. I think I was wigging out right about his age, ready to drive all day, everyday. I've noticed lately that Graham has been taking his age and new privileges in great stride, which is not a bad thing.

He even had a friend call this week (before Graham even got his license) asking for a ride to seminary and school so he didn't have to take the bus. Brave and loyal friend! What an experience it must have been. I wish I could remember all the details of my first solo!
We heard nothing all day, assuming all went well with this morning. Then, there was the afternoon...
Mike got a call from Graham saying that his battery was dead and his car wouldn't start. He was going to try to find someone with jumper cables. He did and managed to make it home ok. We were a bit bummed, assuming that this car already needed a new battery and goodness, what next?! Until he got home and delivered the news that he realized he left his lights on all day.

DUH! I should have known. After all, he is my stepson. Leaving the lights on and or the radio blaring while the car is shut off is my MO. So let's not be too hasty and judgmental people, we all have our flaws. Fortunately, Graham is male and it usually only takes a guy one time to figure out that particular flaw the hard way and never let it happen again. How is that?!
So at this very moment, Graham is giving his baby a good wash down. I think the freedom is sinking in slowly, but surely.

I remember my first solo... I was given the opportunity to drive Jenn's red ford ranger as it was pretty new... As any 14 almost 15 year old boy would do... I jumped on the occasion to try out my driving skills and quick reflexes. As I was fish tailing around gravel roads through Brenham TEXAS I quickly realized my driving flaw as I was immediately stopped by a tree surrounding me by bobbed wire fence... Luckily I had some nice onlookers that helped pull me from the ditch. Two weeks later my father asked me if I knew how the bumper was dented and the hood was scratched and of course I unfortunately had no idea how this mishap came about.... Love ya dad... sorry I lied. Cant hold it against me know... and unfortunately you cant beat me now either... Cant wait to see you again.
I've got news for you little brother, your mamma is still alive and well. Surely ready for a good beating during your next visit. Sucka!
But I didnt lie to her... she cant hold that against me haha
You'd be amazed at what all a mother can hold against any given child. Better watch your step . . . . :-)
He he he. I told you.
