It also reminded me of myself, doing the same thing at that age. Only my mom was a thinker. Instead of sitting there watching, she'd have me stir or grate or whatever it was that needed to be done. I know that so many things I do, especially around the house, are things I watched my mom do. I fold sheets and towels like she does. I mentioned not too long ago that I naturally knew a little about decorating a cake by watching her. I hand wash my dishes in steaming hot water and let them air dry. So many wonderful things I know just by having "worked" in the kitchen with her. And guess what?! I'm STILL learning from that wonderful lady!
Point is, even during moments when I feel like I am lacking as a mother figure, I believe they are absorbing like sponges.

I've never known anyone so grateful for so little. You always make me feel like a million bucks!
