We had a garage sale this last weekend. Friday was uneventful and the money came rolling in. Saturday, however, brought us a little adventure. In the previous weeks we've seen a black cat jetting from our backyard every time we'd come near. "There goes that darn cat!" was the phrase of the day. We could not figure out what in the world kept that cat coming. Back to Saturday morning, Mike went back to get the smoker that was to be sold in the garage sale. He lifted it and found a bundle of fur! Momma cat had a litter in our backyard!!
Anyone who knows us, knows we've not a clue what to do with a cat, let alone her nursing kittens. We decided to let nature take it's course. That night we said goodnight to the babies that were now under a cardboard box, assuming momma was going to come and feed them.
The kids were home the next morning and went out to witness our crazy story. We found only one baby left. Sadly, we've no idea what has happened to the rest of the litter. We waited and watched all day for momma. After a few hours we just couldn't stand it any longer, the thought of that sweet baby kitten starving and alone. So we Googled a formula and fed her with a syringe. Just a few minutes later she came alive! She was wobbly, but more active. The kids fell in love in an instant.
Unfortunately we are not in the position to take on this responsibility. Time, money and situation just would not allow it. After a few phone calls we finally found someone who was excited to take on this challenge. When we loaded the kitten up the kids were sad, but we decided this was better for her. We look forward to checking in with the new owner next week to find out the progress of our kitten-for-the-day.
So there ya go. We were the proud owners of a kitten if only for a few hours. We're cool like that.
